What's the risk in providing your InnoV8's IMEI number?

Postby WineAnt » Tue Jul 21, 2009 9:21 am

Hi all InnoV8 users

I'm tempted to try and sign all the unsigned programs & games I've collected so far. It seems one needs to get a DevCert file to help crack the programs.

My question is, as stated in the Subject, what risk do I take by providing my cellphone's IMEI number on forums and some sites which asks the IMEI number?

Do I take, for example, the risk of my phone being blocked or being attacked by viruses or what?

Please advise before I try anything which involves providing my phone's IMEI.

Thanks Everyone!!

Hi
I did some research since you posted question.
So far I didn’t find any possible risks for providing IMEI number on forums or anywhere else.
In fact many people think that IMEI number is some sort of pin code or something. IMEI number is world wide unique number assigned to the cell phone when phone is produced. It serves to protect owner of the phone when phone is stolen or lost (if owner is not lazy to register his purchase).

They can use it for imei cloning.
In some country only one imei nr is allowed and when the phone is stolen they can find it.
So change you imei (clone) ,....
I don't say they do it jest a gues, ..

Thanks everyone for your responses.

So, there should be no harm for me to post my phone's EMEI? Right?

Is there a possibility that if I get all those precious certificates  , to sign programs etc., I can somehow be blacklisted or something?

I'm thinking, once a company get hold of my phones IMEI, and realize I'm trying to update illegal versions of their software (like with Handy Weather, for the weather forecast), they can permanently block my phones EMEI for any updates of their software?

What do you guys (and girls ;) ) think?
