The firmware debacle

Postby tangey » Tue Jun 16, 2009 1:32 pm

It'll be a long LONG time before I ever buy another samsung phone.

Changed from an N95 to the i8510 Sept last year, for the great camera. All sorts of issues with the phone, but hey, its new, there will be a firmware update shortly.

And then it was "samsung" has guaranteed one by Christmas, from the moderator. And then it was, just wait til the xyz show, they'll have one by then.

9 months on, zero official updates. Face it, the handset has been forgotten about, at least in the UK market. As KilroySlik would say, we've been shafted.

When users are BUYING firmware files, using hacked software to try to force foreign language firmware to install, even making home brew hybrid firmware concoctions !, you know its time to forget samsung as a serious handset provider.

Couldnt agree more.
Its just when you work so much with the phone trying to get it the way you want it you get a very much personal relationship with it. And when you do you are screwed. Finally now mine works like a charm, and im happy with it.

This handset is great. The problem is other thing!!

Samsung doesn't have an own operating system. Only makes great phones, nothing else!!

Samsung need a provider for the OS. Examples: 1.- Omnia, 2.- Omnia HD,3.- Innov8 (The first and second has a provider called Microsoft; the third has Symbian and the provider is Nokia).

His peace of cake grows up when samsung works with those providers (talking about the % of the marketplace)

At least, i thing that's the strategy of many phone manufacturers.

Sorry for my poor english.

Greets from Chile!
