The Best Firmware for I8510

Postby Aliu » Tue Jul 28, 2009 7:48 pm

I have experimented with all the available firmwares for the Samsung I8510.
I have been able to make some very useful conclusions about which firmware works and work better.
And which ones are useless.

1. The I8510ZXIE1 Taiwan (May 2009) firmware is useless for any non-chinese speaking person.
No need to combine this firmware with another. The best performance you may get in combination is not more than using
any single other IC1 firmware. Mathematically, this is what you get:
I8510ZXIE1 (Taiwan) + I8510DJIC2 (Malaysia) = I8510XXIC1 South Africa (March 2009)
Advice: Don't install unless you speak Chinese.

The below firmwares perform very good but depends on ...

2. I8510XXIC1 UK March 2009
This firmware is good at performance. It has many new applications. But none of these applications work outside the UK.
Applications like BBC iPlayer, Skype, MSN Messenger, etc are preinstalled but will not open unless you live in the UK.
Though you can uninstall these applications.
Advice: Don't install unless you live in the UK. UK residents, please install it's an excellent firmware.

3. I8510XXIC1 South Africa (March 2009)
One of the best firmwares. Everything here works ok except the old long general problems of not saving GPS postion in
photos (note that this problem is common in ALL the firmwares available; no exception)
Advice: Recommended for all. Phone and GPS reception is excellent.

4. I8510DJIC1 Australia (March 2009)
Good. as good as the South Africa's one. Same performance. Only that the South Africa has the XX firmware (Europe)
Advice: Recommended for all. You wont be disappointed.

5. I8510DJIC1 India (March 2009)
Very good. slightly faster than that of Australia. But not noticeable. Both score same points in aggregate.
Advice: Highly recommended. Will put a smile on your face.

6. I8510XXIA1 Nigeria (Jan 2009)
The best. Sounds strange. I too was surprised when I tried this firmware. It works like lightning.
No Route 66 is installed. You can install this from Route 66 website. GPS signal is excellent. More than the rest other
firmwares. Enough memory in local C. Everything here is best compared to the rest other firmwares. Though we still
wait for Samsung to produce the perfect firmware (for none so far is perfect).
This firmware too can be updated via PC Suite (if any update is available).

If you need any of the above named firmwares, feel free to let me know.

Hi.

Thank you very much for your labour.

Do you have all this Firmware files together with the matching csc? It would be nice if you could note the languages that are available with that firmwares.

I would be very interested in number 6 if there is a german language available.

I8510ZXIE1 does have support for english (every firmware region does), it is just that you have to select it from a chinese menu system (as obviously the firmware defaults to chinese when you install it).

There are a few things which annoyed me about using it in english though

1) Calendar Entries only show up ON THE DAY that they are scheduled for, not DURING THE WEEK in which they occur (as in XXIC1)

2) In SMS messaging, using T9 dictionary to scroll through potential words, if you choose "Previous" the whole word disappears and you have to write it out again

3) VerySoft NiceLight did not work when using the LED Flash as a flashlight source. The LED does work in XXIC1 however.

Apart from that it ran very quickly and had excellent battery life..

Also, I can only find the South African XXIC1 online, any clues where I can get the UK version as that is where I am from.

Cheers

So far I have tested all of the firmwares and combos as well. I'm retesting the Nigeria one for the sake of giving you the benefit of the doubt. The camera is way too slow though . . . Other than that, I don't have complaints yet . . .

Yes, I have the COMPLETE 100% files for all the above firmwares. I will try to post them tomorrow if I am less busy, if not, I will do that over the weekend.

The languages in the firmwares are as follows:
1. I8510XXIA1 Nigeria (Jan 2009) => English, Francais(French), Deutsch, Italian, Español (Spanish).
2. I8510DJIC1 Australia (March 2009) => English, Francais(French), Deutsch, Italian, Español (Spanish).
3. I8510XXIC1 South Africa (March 2009) => English, Francais(French), Deutsch, Italian, Español (Spanish).
4. I8510DJIC1 India (March 2009) => English, Francais(French), Deutsch, Italian, Español (Spanish).
5. I8510XXIC1 UK March 2009) => English, Francais(French), Deutsch, Italian, Español (Spanish).

The startup/default language for all the firmwares above is English.
Battery life for all five firmware are superb (compared to the rest firmwares). They all last the same number of days.
The font for all the above five firmwares are the normal fonts we are all used to in Samsung I8510.

The languages in the firmware I8510ZXIE1 Taiwan (May 2009) are, Chinese, English and Mayau (not too sure of the spelling)
The startup/default language for the firmware I8510ZXIE1 Taiwan (May 2009) is Chinese.
The font here is different. A bit bigger and bold.
Battery life is less compared to the above five.
But when combined with I8510XXIC1 South Africa (March 2009), the firmware I8510ZXIE1 Taiwan (May 2009) reaches to a level performance almost equal to the five named above. But it is not recommended. Just waste of time and risking your phone. Why combine mangoes and oranges in order to get tomatoes? Better get yourself a real single natural tomatoes.
