There is truly no best firmware. But from the dustbin of firmwares for the samsung i8510, the listed 5 firmwares come out cleaner. This is a mere case of one-eyed man being the king in a land of blind men.
My suggestion will be to use any of the listed best 5 firmwares. Make your choice based on your region and what applications you use most often. If you use GPS (Route 66) most, choose Nigeria (1st) or UK (2nd) or India (3rd) firmware ... in order of quick and high GPS reception.
If your priority is making and receiving calls, then choose South Africa, UK, Australia or India (in order of priority).
Internet connection over WIFI or WAP, UK, Nigeria, South Africa, India, or the Combined firmware.
NOTE: For non-UK residents installing the UK firmware, please uninstall all non-working applications and reinstall the missing ones in order to truly enjoy this firmware. It's great and works fine, both GPS and network reception is superb. Voice clarity in calls is excellent.
A curious observation. When testing the Nigeria firmware sometime ago, I was surprised to observe that you can save GPS position in photos. But this happened unexpectedly. I had my camera setting to GPS ON.
When I tried to take a photo, a warning prompt indicated on the screen that no network setting is ACTIVE for GPS position. I was given an option to press YES (to activate) or NO (to cancel process). I pressed YES. My phone connected to my network carrier (I did not like this option because I was going to pay for connection time). The connection was ON and I then took a photo (for a test). Later at home at night, I copied the photo to my pc and checked details.
Surprisingly in details, there was GPS position... latitude and longitude bearings!!!
But on the next day, I tried to take another photo. This time no prompt for network connection was displayed. And my phone never took photos again with GPS position.
Please have anyone experienced this too?
