Stupid question ? - Signing !

Postby Klosterbruder » Thu Feb 05, 2009 8:32 am

'lo !

Maybe I am a complete nerd, maybe I don't understand the easiest things ever, maybe I am still stoned from my recent trip to Asia.
It's about that signing nonsense...
I understand that signing was (unofficially) invented to be another hurdle for people who want to test some applications for their mobiles prior to buying. Ok.
And I understand that in most cases you have to get hold of a developer or similar certificate or post your IMEI number on suspicious boards for any software developer being able to track who wants to use pirated software.
All understood.
But I just don't understand why there just isn't an application to download and sign mobile applications yourself.
You know what I mean ? - Install a software on your mobile or on your PC, tell it to sign application xxx - and you're done.

I read some lines about mobiles and signing - but I just don't understand why there's no simple way to do that.

Anyone willing to introduce me to this obviously well-kept military-grade secret ?

While I don't know of any that offer the complete solution in an all in one package, in theory it shouldn't be THAT hard to do.

We already know that signing apps exsist, you just need a dev certificate to use with it right?

So all you'd need is a signing app with the dev cert built in. However the problem lies in the certificate itself. As I understand it, a dev certificate is personal to each and every phone (done via the IMEI). So unless the app had a feature that allowed you to type your IMEI in and register it to the certificate, I can't see how it would work.

I guess it's a good challenge for any developers out there though!

That's the way I see it. :)

I just don't get it, why almost every PC warez application is accompanied by a crack - but NO mobile application is accompanied by a similar crack (signing application).
No, instead of that you have to post your IMEI on strange boards. That's a bit like posting your full name and address to download a crack for a PC game: The IMEI creates a fixed link between your phone and your name and address. Additionall, the IMEI can be used to locate your mobile phone anywhere in the world in just seconds. So I would never ever post my IMEI unless my phone had been an anonymous purchase.
Still - I don't get it where's the problem with developing an application which just requests the input of your phone's IMEI and the file name to sign and then simply does the job.

Similar issue with developer certificates: Again, you have to disclose your IMEI on some web sites and return later to pick up your certificate.
WHY ? Why isn't there an application to download which creates the dev certificate locally ?
I find it more than suspicious that this software IS out there - otherwise those web sites couldn't offer that kind of service, but it just does not leak out.

Do I overlook something important ?

Some good new for you my friend!

Have a look at this http://rapidshare.com/files/194720409/I8510_HACK.rar

This contains 3 things; HelloOx, Mapdirves and a dev certificate.

Now download it and the signsis app which you can get from here http://rapidshare.com/files/193773960/s ... s_V1.0.zip

Now install Signsis, put the dev cert on your phone and link the two together (look at the hacking guide if you need more info on this) and sign HelloOx and Mapdrives.

Now I used my own dev cert to sign these, not the one included so I don't know if it works. If it does then that's cool! If not then it looks like you've still got to sell your soul to the Chinese for one.

Install HelloOx and it will hack your I8510. When it's done, uninstall it.

Last but not least, install Mapdrives and your phone is now 100% hacked and you can install almost app without having to mess around with signing them first!

Give it a go and see what you think!

DarkPand0r found all of this so thanks go to him and the Chinese site he got it from ;)

Not sure how relevant this is, but the hellox app was updated:

1.03 seems to make it easier to use

I don't think there will ever be an application as described. It's Symbian.

HelloOX still requires you to sign with a dev cert that requires your IMEI. Get a dev cert and you're done, otherwise go through the trouble of Open Signed Online; oh wait that still requires your IMEI. No IMEI no signing buddy =\. It sucks, we know.

Tried Mustaine8661 approach, problems with the certificate included in the download. Can sign apps but when i try to install them thats when it brings up a problem with the certificate.

Guess I still need my own one which i can't seem to get as the site everyone used in the hacking guide seems to have expired.

Also the link roach supplied to for the newest HelloOX, the download links on the page seem corrupt because i cannot download.
