Slow to achieve GPS signal (Route 66)

Postby PluMbE » Fri Apr 17, 2009 9:16 am

Hi,

Thanks for stopping by.

I often experience that my phone are using several minutes to get a GPS signal. I'm using the built-in Route 66 which I'm very happy with in every other term.

Even if I'm standing outside with no buildings near, turning on the GPS, it can take up to 5 minutes.

Are you having the same problem? Or do you know a way to fix it?

Thank you in advance.
(Tried the search, but couldn't find anyone with a similar problem)

Are you using GPS+ located in the Menu > Applications?

This will give you a better time to fix the satellite signal (usually less than 30 seconds). It will use a small amount of data (say 50k), the data is valid for 7 days.

Aah, I couldn't figure out what that app did and now I do - thank you very much.

So I just need to update the data efter 7 days if I need to use the GPS?

If I e.g. on day 1 is on location A and updating the data, using the GPS to get to location B - on day 2 I'm now on location C (not B anymore), and need to use the GPS again, is it then needed to update the data again?

Thank you again for answering my noob questions :)

You can set it to automatically update every 7 days in the options menu. This is handy if you have an all inclusive data plan. No need to keep updating when changing location, 1 update will last you 7 days.
