(SKYPE WORKING 3UK) THREE SKYPE ON UNLOCKED PHONES

Postby invadm » Sun May 24, 2009 5:56 pm

OK TO ALL THE NON BELIEVERS OUT THERE LISTEN TO INVADM. MY INNOV8 IS UNLOCKED BOUGHT AT CEX COMPUTER EXCHANGE AND I AM USING SKYPE. FORGET WHAT THE GUYS AT THREE TELL YOU I AM A 100% SURE THIS WILL WORK AS IT WORKED FOR ME.
if you take a look at your phones settings>connections>destinations>wapservices>
you may not see 3, if you dont then create a access point manually. if you do then open it up and take a look at the homepage second to last at the end of the page.
now if you see nothing then you need to imput this http://mobile.three.co.uk/hb/hutchkey,
after this change the authentication to (normal).
then change access point name at the top to (three.co.uk).
then change use access point to (automatically)

AFTER ALL THIS YOU NEED TO GO TO packet data and change the access point to (http://mobile.three.co.uk/hb/hutchkey)

after this you will see that when signing in to skype it takes a good 25-30 seconds but (IF IT DOES NOT THEN TRY AGAIN)
And then BAM!!!!!!!!! free skype calls forever on 3uk. the msn app will not work i am looking for a sollution and will hopefully post soon.
if this does not work then send me a message and i will help you out but like i said (100% works) guys at three know bull this is not a firmware issue but settings and it works :D :D :D :D :D

(PLEASE TELL ME HOW THIS WORKED FOR YOU)

Well,I personally prefer not to type in all network settings, but recive it over sms:

But,with my original firmware(oct 2008),i couldn't use Skype. Therefore,i've updated it to version I850XXIB2-feb 2009 and now Skype is working
There are links for latest firmware and drivers:

Hi guys

Thanks for your advice so far. I actually have a Nokia 6650 that I want to try and use for Skype. I've entered all the settings and I can log in on Skype.

My question is: 1) I thought the 3 network skype was free but if I try to ring someone via Skype it keep phoning a local number in UK first, is this the way skype on a mobile works?

2) Other small thing, while I log in to Skype I keep getting this very annoying security warning about letting skype use network etc...do anyone know how to turn that off.

Regards

hi baboonboy

yes calling another number to connect to skype is normal it does this on all of symbian model handsets it does not do this on the actual skype phone but it is not a problem because this is a free connection call. the connect to network does not sound right maby you downloaded the app from else where but planet3 is where the correct skype, can you please confirm where you downloaded the skype that you use on your handset.

Hi Invadm

My problem with it phoning a local number first is that it defeats the purpose of me wanting to use this 3 free Skype service since when it attemps to make the local call it doesn't do it because I need to top-up my PAYG card, which I do not intend to do...so it seems that it might not actually be free. I tried to phone the "echo" test number on my T-mobile unlocked Nokia with Skype and it then also asks me to top up first so it can make the local call.

The Skype I installed is from the 3 site.

Thanks

hello again baboonboy

i have checked out the problem and it is down to the handset not being compatible with 3g skype, because it is not on there compatible list you can not have the free services. The thing with my samsung was that the handset had no compatiblity issues with skype so it was easy to fix.
you can check your phone here, http://www.three.co.uk/_popup/Skype

regarding the issue with the phone calling a local number to call your skype users, this is actually how it works on all phones and is the same on my innov8 and n95 and skypephone sp2 so this is normal. the reason the network is trying to charge you is again the incompatibility of the your mobile phone.

The problem with your phone is that it may just be a compatiblity issue with the service or something else but, you can allways try updating the phone with your 3g simcard incerted in the handset via nokia`s own update app. this will change the phones firmware into the original 3g firmware and will not effect the phone in anyway. i think this is all the options you may have left unfortunately, if the handset is not compatible with the services provided there is not much options left.

Hi Ivadm

Thanks for your help so far. I understand what you are saying about the incompatibility and that was my 1st thought when I couldn't find my phone on the list but a friend of mine said that the operating system used on the other 6series nokia phone should work on mine aswell but seems maybe not.

I will download the firmware mentioned in the posts on this thread by some other guy and if that doesn't work I'll go to Nokia site like you mentioned.

Thanks again for your help, there is no advice on web about this.

Cheers
