Hi there,

so lets get into the meat as we say in Greece. My phone died a couple of days ago, what I mean died? here are the symptoms:

Powered on.. waiting, pin request.. I enter pin, middle button and the upper left doesn't work as 'ok' to move on, solution? enter the sim card on
another phone and disable pin code, after that we have security code ..same deal but without a solution. Yesterday the phone could work somehow
with the "ok" buttons if you press one time the upper left or middle button and slide down and then back right up. Now the 'ok' buttons doesn't
work at all. So when you slide down the screen in the middle you get also a "black" screen and when it reaches at either full open(slide up) or
closed(slide down) it's ok, screen works fine but not when you are holding it in the "middle" of this sliding. So now anyone have an idea on how
can I get my contacts or the pictures/videos out of the phone? (most of the videos/pictures are in the microsd card which is removed for any case).

P.S. It's not a hardware problem as I disassembly the phone myself(I'm an expert in PC's[my job], not in mobile area though) and check it out, the firmware was one of the latest and its been in my phone long time, more than 5-6 months.

Any ideas could be useful even if they seem fool, Sorry for any typo.. I'm in a bit of a hurry and English isn't my natural language, I'm Greek

this seems like problem with upper part of case ... Try to check flex cable, this is most probable, I had to bought new display, so I disassembled and reassemled the phone, after that I had problems with buttons on upper case, reassembled it again and had to get upper printed circuit to better position, because it wasn't connacted with one couact ... (my English isn't good too:D) Contacts or any data cannot be unfortunately obtained from phone memory without connection via PC Studio, or as a mass memory (which you probably can't reach as you're saying)

Bobsik, as I said I open it and disconnect and reconnect every cable connection possible(e.g. the only cable that is connecting the base with the upper-buttons & screen is one in the middle). The cable connected with screen-upper buttons is hard wired(soldered) so I cannot just remove it, also it has some sort of tape on it.

P.S. One interesting thing that happened today, as I slide it up and down. The image rotated upside down with weird colours. When I powered it down and then power on the phone, stopped doing that.. it was a temporary thing but it was king of weird.

(I hate internal memory grrr). Oh btw Bobsik the 'couact' is written "contact" as the contacts(people) in your phone - Damn I really want to fix that, don't care about the phone if it stays in this situation as I'm planning on buying a new phone, but the contacts are important to me.

ANYONE about how I would save contacts and/or data from the phone without booting up properly? for example there is *+3+power to enter "download all" mode, so why not a mode to access the data? ..just saying

I ordered the cable for connecting the upper part with the lower part, about ~3-3.5 Euros(4-4.5$ if you prefer) and I will change it as soon as it arrives. Hopefully its this king of trouble and nothing more. I need the damn contacts

P.S. Of course sending the phone to a 'special' charging me a fortune isn't an option, if someone can do it I can do it too even if it needs to hard wire every possible chip and create a weird-like usb connection

i hope for you too i affraid, there is no other option to download contacts, then PC studio, this is why i'm from time to time backuping my content ...

Hope to work too, still waiting for that cable(China is way far from me). There are many PC Studio I tried to work, version 3, version 7 etc and the version 3 was later that 7 and in the end I found a more updated version(from date view, because it wasn't from version numbering if you know what i mean), so I was sick with all the versions and stopped having one. The only regret was that I put a security code, if I didn't have a security code, I could use on pc studio version to extract everything..anyway, hope again that this cable is responsible for all this.

P.S. I'll thing veeeeeeeeeeery very much of buying a samsung phone again, was my first samsung and probably the last.

Can't update(not from samsung at least, manual update only with risk of a useless phone)
Try sending a message(to samsung)and see what happens(the only support you can find is by a forum and I'm really happy that we have one here)

also I don't think I'm buying a symbian phone again, android seems more flexible. You have symbian with version e.g. 9.3 ..you stick with that for ever(and maybe if the company, samsung want to.. it will update it to e.g. 9.3 update 20110 fix some problems), on the other hand android phone from 2.1 can go to 2.2 or 2.3 etc.

for this symbian phone will work only samsung PC Studio 7 (it is almost copy of Nokia PC studio for symbian) About camera saving option i have found out, that it is not possible, camera fw has profiles of quality on taking pictures, there editable, but only in FW editing ...
FW update was possible only in few countries of world (in my not), about "hard" flashing of firmware it isn't so hard, I also little edit it
about android, it only seems more flexible, but truth is not that easy ... you're really dependent on internet connection ... And for me, I'm also don't like touchphones

What are you talking about? off topic sure but what are you talking? firstly samsung i8510 isn't working only with studio 7(working with studio 3 tested by me)


P.S. I FINALLY RECEIVE THE PARCEL, today I will change the cable and post results oh and this aftermarked cable seems a bit more flexible from the OEM

Aftermarket(not original) was a bit longer and after connecting it well, even the screen isn't working anymore. Also the slide is quite difficult.

So now I'll ditch the aftermarket cable(I bought an original one).. soon we will have news.

P.S. I was refunded for the piss of sh*t aftermarket cable of course.
