Battery with Garmin XT 5.00.50

Postby barnesy99 » Thu Jun 18, 2009 11:07 am

I have installed Garmin 5.00.50 on my i8510 but the battery life is terrible now. Overnight the battery loses 2 bars. I have done everything suggested on this site such as deleting cardrunner.dll and disabling background service in Garmin settings. Has anyone got any other ideas? Thanks

Using JBaktask Manager, try to see if a process called Screencapture is running in the background, also see if TSRautostart is also running because sometimes garmin doesnt automatically end it so u have to do it yourself...

Google search for it you'll find it easily.

Once you run the application on your phone, you should see a process called Screencapture, highlight it and press on options> program rules and tick kill after boot and press C on your phone to end it just this once...

As for TSRautostart, got to tools> processes, look for it and kill the process

I had to remove my Garmin 5.00.50 due to battery life.

Before I installed it,my battery was running two full days easily. After I installed stupid Garmin,I lost my battery in less than a day :(

Garmin has some program parts running in background at all times which, obviously drain the battery quickly.

However,I can live without Garmin. :D

I used to have HTC Tytn 2 with iGO 08,and I have never had such stupid issues like with Garmin. Nor program, nor any of its parts are supposed to run when you exit the program.

Thanks carboncrome! It worked perfectly for me. I had read before about deleting the CardRunner.dll file in many forums but that alone didnt make any difference in battery life but when I deleted the other file that you mentioned (CardRunner.RSC) I get the normal battery life again, about 2/3 days without turning it off during the night and medium usage.

I was very very close to just unistalling Garmin! Very lucky that I found your post. :D

Thanks mate!

There is a really simple way to solve the battery life issue.
Simply Open Garmin
tools
settings
system
scroll to "launch background service" and "enable"
close garmin down
reopen garmin
tools
settings
system
scroll to "launch background service" then "disable"
close garmin again

From now on, everytime you use garmin, the background program which drains your battery will now automatically shut down when you're finished!
SIMPLES!
No need for any Best Taskman programs or anything like that!
This only works from version 5.00.30 ONWARDS!
There is no need to delete any files either!

I have successfully used the solution suggested by thejuanpacer - works perfectly, no files deleted.
