It already exists HJ4/Custom Version HJ5 for some countries ...it´s stupid that it´s country-specific...bloody Samsung

@stinger:
go to "Messaging", select "Options" then select "SIM messages". The flashing message icon means you still have messages stored on your SIM card.

@gersbo:
- Is the video/sound sync bug fixed? - yes
- Can geotagging be turned on permanently? - yes

For those who are getting the "unsupported model" or something error i have a fix. I flashed the firmware i had (HHa) using Apollo with the unofficial update on this site (under firmware updates) then i updated the phone the normal way using pc studio. The "risky" way with Apollo is pretty straight forward instructions are clear.. Now i have the latest update and when i try to update again it displays "No update necessary, you have the latest firmware".. So there you go, give it a shot and good luck!

I've had no joy

Just took about an hour to download the update, screen on phone flashing all downloaded, but the updater saying there was a problem.

Removed battery and restarted phone, and PC Studio.

It finds the phone OK, but won't run the updater... just get the first two black progress bars and then nothing? :(

Further to last..

I've rebooted the PC and it is now getting back into the update from PC suite.

I've got two options from the box that says "Previous update not completed normally". One is 'Phone does not work properly' (with a drop down box showing model and IMEI) and the other is 'Software update for another model starts'

Which should I chose, bearing in mind it appears the phone is working fine (just still on the old FW). If I choose the 2nd option it appears that it is going to download it all again - is that the case, or is the download fully downloaded somewhere on my phone still??? Not sure if I cba sitting around for another hour!

I was deffered from doing this before the official update came out but seein as how I cant connect my phone to update in the future after using the official update Im wondering if you can give me a guide with as much detail as possible on how to flash using apollo (as I am lost even following the instructions that have already been posted as they just dont give enough detail for me to follow without a great risk of bricking my phone) this would be really helpfull if ya could help cheers, tom.

Looks like I've bricked my i8510. Tried updating the firmware and keeps getting stuck at 40%. Now when I try to turn on the phone it just says Samsung on the screen and then reboots continually :(

Ok, I'll try explain as best I can..

What you need:
1. Download Apollo, you can use the version 5.25 on this site or get the newer 5.27 version which i used http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?iq4ijnuwyzr.. i'd recommend that one.
2. Make sure you have the latest version of PC Studio 7, the one with the Phone Software Update option and make sure that the drivers are installed, that is, your phone is detected and you can do basic things such as transfer files and sync and stuff.
3. Download the firmware for the i8510 from either this site or this one: http://firmware.javer.sgh.ru/?frm=I8510XEHI5&t=4. The latter is version I8510XEHI5.
I'm sure that's pretty clear so far..

Now, this is a checking step to make sure everything goes smoothly:
1. Checking the PDA driver is installed correctly
a. Launch Apollo.
b. Switch on the phone holding the 1 and 4 buttons.
c. After you connect the phone to the PC, in Apollo under "Connection and Progress info" (thats at the right half of the Apollo window) you should see " %USB#_vid".. or something in the PDA box. It could take a while installing the drivers b4 it appears. If it does success! You may need to get drivers from here [url]http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?ytgtyumkmnf[url].

2. Checking the phone driver
a. Lauch Apollo.
b. Switch on the phone holding the 7 and * keys.
c. After you connect the phone you should see something like "[COM13] in the Modem box. It may take a bit too.. If that's all good, you're set to go.

Now to the actual process..
1. Unzip all the stuff you need in a convenient folder.. So you should have Apollo_v5.27.exe unrar.dll and [I8510XEHI5] folder
2. Launch Apollo, click the [Modem Code] button and browse to [I8510XEHI5]>[phone]>I8510XEHI1_XXX_AG0.phone.bin and open.
3. Click [PDA Image] button and navigate to [I8510XEHI5]>PreSetTable.xml and open.
4. Select country and network. If you speak English select Russia and whatever network. When you've booted up you get to select your country and language so there's no drama.
5. Power on the phone with 4 and * key pressed (ALL DOWNLOAD Mode)
6. When you connect phone to PC, the [COM13] or something result should appear as with step c. above.
7. Under "PDA Status", make sure "Bootloader", "NV Clear" and "ALL" are ticked, this is the default condition but just check to make sure.
8. Select your phone in the "Model" box if you haven't already done so, ie, GT-I8510 (PRIMERA)
9. Now click the "All Download" button to begin downloading..

After download, the device will be re-booted automatically. And then CODE and CSC will be downloaded. If the phone is not re-booted automatically, detach the usb cable of the phone and power off. Power on with 1 and 4 key pressed, and the re-attach to PC. Then PDA binary will be downloaded automatically.

When the process is done, you can update your phone using PC Studio "by hook". For troubleshooting refer to the supplied guide.
Well that's it, cheers people, have a happy new year and enjoy your phones!

That was very nice of you! Here we have a lot of versions to play with: http://forum.gsmhosting.com/vbb/showthr ... downloader , just go through the pages. Incidentally, I read somewhere that to change the languages one should update only the CSC, with the right file, of course... Cheers.
