Pay$$ attention: Gps activate Gps+ everytime!!!

Postby kar120c » Thu Nov 20, 2008 4:30 pm

Anyone has noted this?
Gps applications, in my case Route66 activate by itself Gps+ renewing the satellites db for 7 days.
If the settings in Gps+ are setted to Web access point the cellphone activate data packet transfer.

I noticed this when trying to perform a fix i decided to change the user mode of the phone and after pressing the key a message that data tranfer is running I was unsuspected

You're not quite right here...

What's happening when you use Route66 (or Google Maps or pretty much any other GPS enabled application) is that the phone is using AGPS (assisted GPS) to find your location more quickly. AGPS works by the phone using a data connection to the network to use cell-triangulation to work out roughly where it is... that's why you see a data connection. (the setting to turn this off is in Settings > Positioning methods)

The GPS+ application downloads a set of satelite location info to help the phone (I believe when AGPS is turned off) locate satelites. It *can* be timed to download at preset intervals, but I don't think this functionality is actually working in the HH7 firmware.
