Now you can use the flash as a torch light!

Could anyone confirm whether the instructions below work?

1.Go to Settings > Personal > Buttons > Flash Light tab at bottom
2. Tick the Press Volume key long on Today screen to turn on Flash Light
3. Press OK to save the Setting

You may now press and hold the Volume Key for a 2 secs and the Flash Light will turn on for you to use as a Torch. To off the light just hold the Volume Key for 2 secs and the Flash Light will be off.

I don't think menu path actually exists.............

If I remember correctly, you cannot remap any of the buttons except the face buttons and the M1/M2 buttons.

But you can go into the camera, videomode, turn the flash and AF on, then press the shutter half, change to photo mode while it's focussing and voila, the LED's are still working. The problem with this is that it uses a lot of energy because the camera is still working.
Tested in firmware XEHL1.

I use S60SpotOn, but except turning on the screen with a full white screen, the "flash" of the camera can't work, I get 'camera error'... maybe only works with N95 or other smartphones :(

You will find that's the case with most camera apps for the i8510. But if you try Gerii's method above you will find that it works.

Yes but this way... "sucks a little" compared to any other phone which can turn on the light without turning on the camera, like my sony ericsson.

It seems so easy to do for samsung, and they didnt built it in.

So... I know it works, but filming darkness just to turn on the flash light is a bit exagerating, I prefer not to use this way... to annoying, not easy, not fast, no convenient... :(

i used this method when i had the N70:

Just keep a white picture in your image gallery, and when u need a flash light view said pic in full screen mode, doesnt take lots of power, no need to start camera .....

Since I8510 has bigger LCD should work even better on it.

hello all, nicelight 1.0 works for me and some others!!!
the flash LED of course
but be carefull, the others functions : backlight and screensaver bug and reboot the phone...
so you can configure the application to start directly in flash LED and then exit the application a the end
and not use the others functions

little detail, the power of the led with this app. is lower than a photo with flash led

bye

Hey there,

@cedlerick: which FW do u use? On the (german) official Samsungboard wasischlos stated, that NiceLight (LED-Function) works on IB2. Do u use this one too?

Nicelight 1.0 works a treat, a bit buggy with the other functions but the torch works great!
