New UK i8510 Owner

Postby nudibranc » Tue Sep 08, 2009 7:13 am

Hi,
Will receive a new i8510 today and have downloaded I8510XXIC1 UK March 2009 based on the advice on this board:

My question is, how do I know whether my phone already has this firmware installed and if it doesnt is this the best firmware for me?

Does it depend upon whether the phone is tied to a particular service provider, and is it recommended to flash a brand new phone?

Many thanks in advance - looking forward to exploring my new toy!

To figure out if your phone has this on it press *#1234# in the code and csc it should match up the files from the UK XXIC1 files.

Yes that is the best firmware for you.

Yes you can flash a brand new phone.

Have fun!

OK, not sure if fun is the word... interesting tho!

Tried the UK firmware, unfortunately I am not on the Three network which means a lot of the apps/games wont work - on the very bright side the iplayer app works very well. Happy enough to delete the non working apps.

Tried both the Nigerian and South African FW - loved the Nigerian - ran beautifully - but whatever I did was unable to get a downloaded/modded iplayer app running.

So my question is, is there a way to retain the iplayer app from the UK firmware and install the Nigerian on top, or possibly mix and match these two FW's?

Thanks in advance
