Moving app from N85

Postby pijo1971 » Fri Nov 26, 2010 6:57 am

Hi all,
I would like to submit this question.
My finally objective is to use an application instralled on a N85 phone to my i8510.
The application is the MOT Dictionary.

What I have done is:

Install on N85 X-plore, HelloOX2 and of sure ROMPatcher+.

With this files installed I have accessed to to the ROM of N85 (especially SYS folder) and I have copied these files:
z:\sys\bin\MobileDictionary.exe
z:\sys\bin\dictengine.dll
z:\resource\apps\dictengine.dso
z:\resource\apps\MobileDictionary.rsc
z:\resource\apps\MobileDictionary.mif
z:\resource\apps\MobileDictionary.r01
z:\resource\apps\MobileDictionary.r02
z:\resource\apps\MobileDictionary.r03
z:\resource\apps\MobileDictionary.r04
z:\resource\apps\MobileDictionary.r05
z:\resource\apps\MobileDictionary.r13
z:\resource\help\mobiledictionaryhelp.hlp
z:\private\10003a3f\import\apps\MobileDictionary_reg.rsc
z:\private\200159D0\copyright
z:\private\200159D0\dictionary.cfg
z:\private\200159D0\dictionary_en_r.sdb
z:\System\Install\MobileDictionarystub.sis

I have modded my I8510XXIB2_XXX.rofs1.img addind the above files in the exactly folder (I've had to create the z:\private\200159D0\ beacuse was not present).
I have rebuilded the image file and reflashed the firmware on my I8510.

As result, I have found the above file on my I8510, I have the icon (to start the program) in the application folder but when I click on the icon nothing happens.

Finally I've tried to launch the application directly using X-plore clicking on the MobileDictionary.exe file, well on N85 the application starts, on my I8510 not.

where am I wrong ? Anyone have some advise ?

Thank You,
luigi

maybe some additional libraries are missing, try to run it via Jbak taskman, it sometimes show you error which describes problem :)

hello,
unfortunately the error is "system error -1".
I don't know if it could be useful.
cheers,
luigi

in my experience it does mean that app is just incompatible (yes, both are symbian, but few apps doesn't work) maybe some libraries are different or missing, but you have no chance to find out which one ... :?

Ok,
thank you anyway.

I've just another question, even if it is quite off-topic, is it possible modify also the "I8510XXIB2_XXX.rom.img" files with roofviewers ? After any kind of changing it is impossible rebuild the file.

Thanks,
luigi

That program can extract all files and you can rebuild that image again, but i found out, that final filesize is much bigger than the original, so there is probably another way to cook ROM file ... Via this programme it probably won't work, i don't want to try that on my phone :) I like it too much ... On i8910 they made an app to cook rom file, but it cannot be used for i8510 (i tried that) ... It is unfortunate, because in ROM file are most important files, which many of them should be deleted (without harm to the phone) And many apps could be updated (Adobe PDF,Flash etc.) ...
