Has anyone managed to download Route 66 maps

Postby Davew » Fri Sep 05, 2008 5:35 pm

Hello everyone,

Has anyone managed to download the maps for Route 66 because when I tried it says drive full as it trying to download to the small sytem drive with no choice to change to the bigger 16gb drive.
How can they sell this phone without a pretty major feature of the phone being useless because you cant download the maps.
Has anyone found any info on this subject because this is one of the main reason with the 8meg camera I bought this phone.

Come on Samsung

I tried to download them earlier but had the same problem, it was trying to save to phone memory and wouldn't allow me to save to mass.

Probably for the best in my case, I did it on a whim. I'd rather use Garmin or Tomtom I think.

Hi
Yeah I know what you mean I would rather use them but as of yet there is no report of either Tomtom or Garmin working on the I8510.

All I want is SATNAV to work on my shiny new I8510 phone but with no luck

I tried Garmin XT on the i8510 this morning with no joy. It installed but nothing happened when I tried to open the app

Okay, using Y-browser i went into the phone and into the Route66 application options, if the .map file was smaller im sure it goes in there as searching the phone, its all saved on the phone itself, rather than the memory card.

So does that download save you the £50 you have to pay?

However is there the problem that they wont go on the phone?

Right, well i haven't downloaded it personally as i dont have 50 quid to part with till the end of the month but it looks like this is the problem.

The .map file for UK and Ireland is around 250mb roughly, the phone memory is only around 67mb with around 40mb free with only a few things on it.
Looking at the Route66 im going to assume that it wants to download everything to the phone memory, hence the lack of memory, if anyone has tried to download it? does it ask for a download location?

What do you guys think? if im correct on this theory then the whole design of the route66 for this phone is utterly stupid...

Same problem trying to D/L maps I even bought a 2gig Micro card but no fix.
I must say the Navigation was a key reason to get this phone and the fact I have to Pay for the map really makes me mad!! if I wanted to hand over cash I could have just bought a cheap sat nav system!!
But the phone is excellent ;)

Everyone should do a bit of searching on Google ;) and try using Copilot 7 its works with no problems, seems to be one of the few that do at the moment.

But it is just blatant bug that you cant download the maps because it thinks the location is full and not giving you the choice of putting the maps somewhere else.

cheers
