GPS thinks I'm in different country

Postby StefMcDef » Tue Jul 28, 2009 2:06 pm

The GPS on my i8510 keeps locating me in the wrong country.

I am on the Isle of Wight, on the south coast of England.

The GPS repeatedly locates me somewhere in northern France/Brittany, on the other side of the English Channel.

It makes the same mistake across three different mapping applications - Google Maps, Route 66, and Viewranger, a GPS app which lets you view your position on Ordnance Survey mapping in the UK.

I have tried exiting the apps, turning the phone off and on, taking the battery out, using the applications indoors, outdoors, you name it.

Nothing works.

Anyone else experienced this problem? Can you suggest a fix for it?

Thanks in advance if you can help.

I guess something is wrong with your builtin GPS. Are you using Route 66? If yes, try to update to the current version M8_S60_Samsung_Update_8.0.18783 (if Route 66 is preinstalled) or update to version M8_S60_Update_8.0.18990 (if Route 66 was not reinstalled).
Before updating, format your memory card (if installed in memory card) or format your Mass Memory (if installed in the phone's Mass Memory: E). Remember to back up your files in the E: Mass Memory before formatting. (Just copy to your PC desktop these 2 files => (i). PowerDicSymbianV9 (ii) Samsung => from your Mass Memory). After formatting, replace them back to same location on E:Mass Memory.
After updating, download the curent map and install.
