Postby nekoryu » Thu Jan 15, 2009 7:37 pm

Hi all,
the thing is that when i run gps+ to update data, i need to select connection, i do have and use WLAN in my house, but strangely i can only select WAP connections. WTF with this ? Am i retarded or something ? I can use my WLAN when i browse, i can use it when i do internet radio, i can use it when i connect with Fring, but not with GPS+.
Please tell me what am i doing wrong here ?

GPS+ only uses 3G or GPRS. It gets positioning information from cellphone towers which your internet connection via wifi does not have. on th other hand gps+ is kinda useless. it takes 30 seconds to get a GPs lock without it and 5 seconds with it. so you save 25seconds. big deal.

Sadly dude it's not you.

At present time only the network access points can be used with gps+ and yes, it's a huge pain in the ass!

Why I thought that it downloads data from the internet rather than what you've just said? (you can enable GPS positioning information from position methods and use the "Network based" which will do what you said.. they will locate you much quicker but with low accuracy from the cellphone towers).

P.S. Is there any simular application to download simular data but from a wlan(wifi) rather than through WAP?

there is a logical error .... if your phone does not know where you are located, it can not download the satelite info for your region ... and you don't want to wait for a sat fix to use this data to download the satelite info for a week via wifi

Find coordinates throught GPS.. insert the in a program and use this program to download for free updated data. Don't know if such program exists but I prefer it that way rather than paying for gps data every 7 days lol

P.S. It's not so bad to wait ~15-25 secs to find satelites but sometime you really need to use gps sooner than that :-)
