I will install it this way too (but with different CSC) but you really have XXIC1 Firmware, with little differences, I'm not telling, that isn't good at all, but it's still not XXIJ1 Unfortunately

Hi Aliu,

I have been reading all the posts about the best firmware and from what I have seen, I have concluded that you are the resident expert on the matter. Could you advise me on the best firmware for Toronto, Canada. It is the first time I am upgrading the phone, having acquired it spring 2009 on ebay for a great price. Up to now, I have had no need to use anything but the phone, camera, music, so never sought an upgrade. Mostly the camera and music had glitches up to now. Camera exceedingly slow, music sometimes difficult to access. But both were tolerable. But now I am trying to WIFI a VOIP phone service and the SIP stack does not work and I cannot uninstall preloaded aps such as Fring to upgrade them- these are serious problems! This is why I am on a search mission and because I do not like wasting time on electronic devices, I simply want the best I can get. I am considering the South Africa I8510XXIJ1, but recently have seen a posting by King Prawn about another IJ1 software. Which is best for my needs? Please advise me and if others want to, please comment as well. I understand there are problems using the UK version in North America. Thanks for all your help, everyone.

Cheers,
Chris

Aliu,
Can you (please) cook the I8510XXIJ1 firmware with Polish language on board?
Currently I have I8510CBHK1 with Custom version I8510PLSHK1 - both dated 04/11/2008 (Nov. 2008).

I have two problems now, which I hope to remove with a newer firmware:
(1) extremely short battery life
(2) limited space dedicated for "Contacts"

I bought this 8GB phone, on purpose, to store my thousands of "Contact" records.
I am the "agent" professional, having a lot of clients in my D-base.
Nevertheless most of them are occasional, it is god to pick up the call, and say Good Morning Mr. Jones! instead of Hallo?
... when stored contact calls you, you can see the name instead of a pure number ...
Is there a method to increase the C:\ size, or re-define the "Contacts" storage to E:\ where actually most of these 8GB are?
... or F:\ ???
Or increase the C:\ size by removing unnecessary applications ... ???

What was my surprise, when after copying my contacts for the first time, I have seen "Not enough memory", or so ....

I will pray for you, if you can help me with cooking the I8510XXIJ1 with Polish, or with giving me the babysteps guide, how can I do this by myself.

Can you post back to my message, please?

Regards
Cprice

Hi, i don't know, how many contacts you have, but i have 204 contacts which cost me only 94 Kb, which means, that one contact should take about 470 Bytes(+/-). So 10 000 contacts will take about 4,59 MB.

C:\ disk cannot be unfortunately too much erased, because FW ROM is not editable right now :?
I was looking to, if you can change destination where to put contacts, i have this option in Contacts>Settings>"Default memory" but only option i have is in-built memory ... But i have my own edited FW, so it can have few bugs :)

BTW, XXIJ1 is not available to download :? i have XXIB2 edited ...

Bobsik,

Thank you for your voice ...
I have ca. 4.000 contacts.
I have downloaded them onto the phone, and they all put on successfully.
But, when I wanted to find e.g. Christopher Black ... after typing the firs letter, the message comes on Not enough memory ... or something similar.
Eventually, I have selected my contacts, and for the time being, I have not more than 300 pending contacts now.
With 300 it works good, but still I have a lot of incoming calls, when I can see the pure number only - this is inconvenient to me.

I understood, Aliu was cooking XXIJ1 with some components of XXIB2 + Czech language on board.
That is why, I posted my message.

I value my i8510 much, and I would love to continue with it, but I feel, I need a modified FW, to match my needs.
Regretfully, I do not know how to cook the FW, what software should be used to replace CSC file, etc.
So, I need some help, either in cooking the FW for me, and uploading to some place, or guiding me to Do It Yourself.
In general, I am much skillful user of various software, easily operate on Windows registry files, so I am not a naive beginner.
On the other hand, I am just self-educated user (not an IT professional), 45-y.o. ... so I am not in a mainstream of hacking activities ... I need a guide.

Referring the FW versions - I found the following links ... please have a look
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=EFIK04NL
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=9LPMADLA
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=3IDFRWJ4
ftp://hojc.asuscomm.com/part0/share/
http://samsungflash.webs.com/apps/wiki/i
Here, on Wiki, there is even a version XEIK1 dated November 2009 (XXIJ1 is dated October 2009).

Any help appreciated ... the modification, which is allocation of Contacts storage to E:\ instead of C:\ may fix my problem ... how to do it?
I do not have this choice on my current CBHK1.

all files you linked are unfortunately incompleted XXIJ1 FWs which has replaced main ROM file, so it's unusable ... About editing, there is programme for Win, which can extract and after that rebuild all images (except ROM file) via this i edited (and mostly deleted unused apps) from FW ... You said, you're little experienced user, so you will see, what to do yourself :) ... Unfortunately many important files are in ROM part, which is uneditable ... I will try to find link for that programme (http://forums.samsungi8910omnia.com/sam ... ditor.html) , and I try to negotiate with author of programme which can "cook" ROM for Samsung i8910, if he cannot edit for our purpose ... IF i will succeed, i will try to do my best to edit (and post this programme everywhere i can :) )
