Can't UNINSTALL certain Themes

Postby WineAnt » Thu Jul 23, 2009 10:31 am

Hi Everyone

I'm a new Symbian S60 user. Please excuse if this has been answered before.

I've recently installed some themes on my InnoV8, but can't seem to uninstall some of them. They all work (besides the Google & Settings icons  , but I can't remove the themes all together.

When I go to the phones Add/Remove application program (App Manager I think), it doesn't list some themes I've installed and which shows in the Theme manager.

Please advise. Must I go manually delete these themes, using something like Y-Browser or what should I do to remove these problematic themes?

Thanks all.

There are two methods to solve your problem, which depends on whether you have installed the theme to your phone memory or memory card. I experienced this myself so this is exactly what I did:

1. If the themes were on the phone memory
Then you need to hack your phone because you will never be able to access the phone's system folders otherwise. Use X-Plore or ActiveFile and navigate to the C:\Private\10207114\import folder. Inside you should find several subfolders containing nothing but gibberish. Delete all the contents of these subfolders but DO NOT delete the folders. Some themes will also leave several "trails" in the C:\Resource\skins folder, again only delete the contents but DO NOT delete the folders.

2. If the themes were on the mass storage drive/memory card
Simply do the above with your computer's file explorer, but you need to connect the phone in Mass Storage mode, either via cable or bluetooth. You also need to tell the PC to show hidden files and folders. The name of the folders will be E:\Private\10207114\import or F:\Private\10207114\import.

Good luck! (although I don't think luck has anything to do with this :) )

EDIT: if your "stuck" themes are on the mass storage or memory card then you don't have to hack your phone first.
