Does anyone know of any 3rd party software for voice dialing that is compatible with this phone?. Had some huge arguements with cpw over false advertising etc. gave me a visorblade in the end stating it would do this through the unit. Wrong!!!! still need at least one voice tag on phone. Phone good but basic voice dialing function should have been included.
    Many thanks

Has lots of functions, all websites review it stating voice dialing included, even the phone companies state this. but it doesn’t have it nor do i think are there any plans to incorporate it.

    Question to Samsung i8510 >owners.<
What about all these S60 3rd programs that are available for Nokia’s S60 3rd phones, are they running on this new phone as well?
Did you tested the following programs: X-Plore, SymSMB, ProfiMail and so on?
    Thanks.

    To Larry.

A lot of S60 programs work well with the Innov8 and a lot do not. Anything Nokia made (Python, Sports Tracker etc) will not install at all as Nokia does not allow it, those programs are for Nokia phones only. Anything that needs to “plug into” an API on the Innov8 most likely will not work such as Navigation programs that are made to use an inbuilt GPS receiver, unless specifically written to support the Innov8 and there are more coming each day. Garmin MobileXT works absolutely perfectly with the Innov8’s inbuilt receiver. All you can do is try the stuff you want and hope it works in every way that it should, not all of them will but. I get a lot of feature not supported errors trying out stuff which means it ain’t gunna work.
Its fun trying them all out but.

GARMIN!! You want perfect GPS Navigation on your Innov8 then look no futher Garmin Mobile XT now version 5.00.30 is 100% compatible with the Innov8 and uses the internal or an external GPS receiver which you can choose depending on the situation. I can tell you the internal GPS of the Innov8 is a little beauty and works fantastic, very quick fixes. Do a seach for torrents or at forums like ip-mart and Mobile Castle and you will find what you want or download from Garmin website.

Well there’s nothing really wrong with the phone itself as such, it is extremely well made, top quality, makes Nokia’s really look like the cheap rubbish they are these days. The problem with the phone lays in its operating system, Sybian is good but Samsung have no idea what they are doing with it and therefore the user suffers, a lot of S60 programs that work absolutely perfectly on an N95 for instance won’t even install on the Samsung. No call recorders work, no answering machine apps work, not many GPS nav programs, etc, etc, its really a crying shame that such a great phone has been let down by Samsung not investigating and learning S60 properly. They have now given up on the INNOV8 as an old model because they are busy patting themselves on the back for the Omnia which I don’t think I will be looking at as a new phone after my experience with my INNOV8. The Nokias may be made pathetically cheaply but at least while the rubbish does still function (which is not long anymore) all apps install and run perfectly.

I have this phone but no way am I going to try and flash the firmware with Apollo and the intructions. Too complex and a high chance of ruining the phone. Samsung should be taking responsibility for provide software that works and can update firmware. That they don’t makes them a substandard and untrustworthy business.

I have this phone, the hardware is fine, the best, but the software is below par and doesn’t have some of the functions like voice tagging my 4 year old phone had. Samsung haven’t updated their software for this phone and it seems they wont. They let down their customers…the opposite of Nokia.

I have a great phone if it could work to its potential..but it never will. I think Nokia has to be the choice of phone since at least you know they will provide continuing support for the phones.

Ah, poor Max, doesn’t know garbage from quality and still has the wool pulled over his eyes by Nokia.

Go to Symbian Freak Max and read about the new N97, about how its a slow under specced P.O.S. just like all Nokia’s are these days.

No problem Johny, I hope you find a great phone, the Innov8 could have so been it except for my observations as pointed out. If you could live with the software side of things then its a pretty good phone and with Garmin XT it does a damn good job as a navigator but overall it ends up being so disappointing when another program won’t install or if it does, it doesn’t work properly when you try to run it. But one can learn to live with it like I have.

You are being sarcastic right Dmitry?

I certainly hope you are being sarcastic anyway.

Cause the people at Samsung are doing a completely crap job of meeting expectations and meeting all the challenges as far as the Innov8 is concerned and that’s the true facts.

davejohn_13 – sorry to hear of your very bad run, I thought I was unlucky!

The Innov8 is a very well made phone but like anything there is always some that slip through the quality system. I have had 2 Innov8’s now as I dropped one very badly onto tiles and killed it, until then it was great and the replacement is still going strong so I would have to say that on the whole they are very good and you have been quite unlucky.
I would bypass the retail store and boycott them forever after too and deal with Samsung direct and demand a new phone not a half arsed fix up job.
Hope it all works out for you.

Hey davejohn_13, I’ve just had the same problem over the weekend. I had a couple of programs running on the innov8, testing out fring and on google…. Then i received an sms from a friend, so i was typing up the reply, when I hit the media shortcut button… i closed out of that went back to messages and thought it would have saved as per normal in drafts. but it wasn’s there, didn’t show up anywhere….. so i thought i’d type it up again only to realise it trying to open a new message didn’t work no matter what i did…. i’ve had it since jan 09 and no problems till this. now i’m dumbfounded. a phone that was working so well is now restarting if i type in a number…not opening up new message and neither does it let me open my contacts. i’ll be having it checked… i’m covered by warranty but will that be enough…. damn shame…

jim i wish i read your comments before i got the phone but i had gotten it before you wrote ur comments. it’s a fantastic phone, has the best features out there than most phones, but it lacks support and as u say things don’t seem to work and no one has the answers… plus no doubt ur right about samsung having given up on it now. o well i guess i’ll have to live without making the most of this phone, as in use the media player, cam, basic browsing etc… cos I’m on a plan and don’t get out of the contract for a while.

And it doesn’t look like any help is on its way in terms of fixing the s60 issues…
